Newark, DE – On
March 11, 2008, the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Council held
their 9th Annual Women of Distinction Celebration
and recognized the 2008 honoree Deneen D. Stewart, Esq., for her
years of service improving the lives of youth and families in
Delaware, and for her advocacy on behalf of girls and young women.
Stewart works as
the CRA Officer, General Counsel, and Secretary of ING DIRECT USA.
With a strong background in law, education, and retail, Stewart
works to serve girls as a member of the Boards of Directors of the
Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay and YWCA, and sits on the board of
the ING DIRECT Kids Foundation, which works to improve the lives of
children and families.
“My hope for all
of the young women in the audience tonight is that you leave here
inspired to one day be a woman of distinction in your own right,”
Stewart said during her acceptance speech at the event. “I
encourage you to be a pioneer [and] a leader. Know that it’s ‘cool’
and admirable to be a Girl Scout and you truly can make a
difference.”
The theme of
this year’s Women of Distinction event was Teaching Girls
CentsAbility, a financial literacy program developed and offered
by Girl Scouts of the USA to teach girls the importance of money
management and saving.
A leading
advocate for and expert on girls, the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake
Bay builds girls of courage, confidence and character by
