CAMP GROVE POINT  

Capital Campaign Projects

The unit shelter, 3 toilet houses and major painting, new tent platforms, picnic tables and ropes course were completed in September, 2007.


This July 6th, 2007 picture shows the Grover Point Unit Shelter with the wood stove chimney. The construction work is done. The canvas curtains have to be installed, the brooms and rake hung and the picnic tables built and placed inside.

   
New Toilet Houses were constructed at Cimmaron, Sassapeake and Trail's End, and will soon be screened. A new Unit Shelter is under construction at Ahsosowah (2007).

Capital Improvements

   
Grove Point has been given a fresh coat of paint! The work has been funded by dollars from the capital improvement grant. Buildings worked on so far - Dining Hall interior and exterior, Punch Bowl exterior, Chatter Box exterior, Trading Post exterior, Office exterior, Star Lodge, Cookie Jar and Cottage (April 2007).

New Tent platforms are replacing the old wooden platforms at Camp Todd. They are made out of an extremely strong and durable composite material that has at least a 20 year lifespan (March 2007).

Camp Country Center

• AT LAST, the ground has been broken for the Science & Technology Lodge. Expected completion date is the end of July 2008.

Camp Todd

• Attached please find the Design Development Plan for the Program Center. We now expect to break ground 2 month sooner - July, 2008. The Camp Todd architectural Review Committee met with the architect on January 23rd. Next meeting is in a month.

Camp Sandy Pines

• Connie Bell Lodge renovations are almost complete. The building looks wonderful! So much brighter with the new windows, new entrance, new screen porch, bathroom extension, kitchen remodeling. The main room has a new tackable wall, the new windows, and new paint on the floor.

Camp Grove Point

Camp Grove Point

• The Ahsosowah Unit Shelter construction is complete. During the summer, the rest of the tent platforms, fire circles, flagpole, canvas curtains and tools will be installed. It should be on line by Fall School.

Camp Country Center

• Design revisions are complete. Invitations to bid to local contractors have gone out. A contract award should be made by Sept. 21st. We still are waiting for County Record Plan approval.

Camp Todd

• A committee of 7 (volunteers and staff) reviewed 7 proposals and selected A.ES of Salisbury to design the program center.
• A new contract to complete the rope ferry is agreed upon. Work will begin in late August.

Camp Sandy Pines

• The tree houses/ double unit shelter project just received the Wicomico Health Dept. permit approval. The bathrooms are being installed. The ribbon cutting is to be Sept. 20th. The flagpoles are being ordered and Denise is finding volunteer groups to help with assembling the cots, building the fire circles and donating the flags. Thanks Denise!

Richard Meredith has been selected as the contractor for the Connie Bell Lodge renovations. That work should begin in September.

Camp Grove Point

• The toilet houses have been screened and are being used.
• The unit shelter is almost done. We are waiting for the canvas curtains, wood stove and some site work. We expect it to be dedicated at Fall School.

Camp Country Center

• Cost estimates could not be brought down to our budget. The construction manager (and estimator) has withdrawn. The architect has revised the roof and foundation (see attached drawing) and is revising the plans. The project will be rebid this summer.

Camp Todd

• Barrow & Son is preparing a proposal to complete the rope ferry. We expect to add a ramp to prevent soil erosion on the slope to it.
• A committee of volunteers and staff met to review 6 architect proposals for the program center. We plan to interview 2 in July.

Camp Sandy Pines

• The tree houses and unit shelter are coming along nicely. See attached pictures. We are still waiting for the septic permit so the plumbing can be installed. The opening is expected in September.
• The Connie Bell Lodge renovation bids are due July 6th. Construction should start this summer.

Camp Country Center

• We expect to receive recommendations next week from the architects and construction manager on bringing the cost of the Science & Technology Lodge within our budget.
• A contract for a new well has been awarded and a well permit applied for.
• The Record Plan has been submitted to New Castle County and we should receive their comments within a month.
• Once we have plan approval and an affordable plan, we can begin construction – probably August.

Camp Grove Point

• The 3 toilet houses are operating and will have screening added.
• The unit shelter has been screened, the rain barrels are in place, the water is connected – and the grading and seeding is done. Next week, the siding, toilets, wash basins and electricity will be installed.

Camp Sandy Pines

• The tree houses and unit shelter are having roofs installed. We are still waiting for the plumbing permit from the County Health Department for the septic system, toilets, showers and wash basins.
• Connie Bell Lodge renovation plans are being prepared for bid. The improvements will add comfort and years of low maintenance to the building. That work should begin this summer.

Camp Todd

• The rope ferry work has been stalled. It should be completed this summer.
• Architect proposals for designing the new multipurpose program center/dining hall are being received. They will be evaluated in mid-June and a final selection made by the end of July.
