Dear Future Volunteer,

Welcome to Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay! We appreciate your interest in volunteering. Your contributions as a volunteer will truly make a difference in the lives of girls.

In order to officially become a volunteer of the Girl Scouts, please complete the following steps:

Step 1: Complete the volunteer application process, which consists of the following tasks:

  • Complete and mail in the Volunteer Application ( PDF or Word).
  • Provide the names and addresses of two non-related individuals on the application who can verify your qualifications for becoming a Girl Scout volunteer.  References from individuals familiar with any past volunteer experience(s) are highly recommended.
  • Inform your references that you have selected them and that they soon will receive a confidential reference form from us. Please encourage your references to respond as quickly as possible.
  • Complete the criminal background check by clicking here. For the password, please contact your Community Development Manager at Council, or your Service Unit Manager.

More information about the background check process can be found here
(link forthcoming).  Please keep this page for future reference. If you have already completed this background check, please do not do it again.

You can expect to be notified regarding the status of your application within 2 weeks after it is submitted. There shall be no discrimination against an otherwise qualified adult volunteer by reason of disability, age, race, color, ethnicity, sex, creed, national origin, citizenship, or socio-economic status. If your application is approved, you will receive an official letter from Council.

Step 2: Register as a Girl Scout adult member. Please contact your Service Unit Manager, Organizer and/or Community Development Manager for assistance with registration, or contact your nearest Council site. All appointed volunteers must become Girl Scout members and agree to accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law.

Step 3: If you are volunteering as a troop advisor or Service Team member, you must register for Leadership Fundamentals.  There are many other enrichment opportunities available to our other volunteers. Contact Bernice Chandler at (302) 456-7150 ext. 7174 to register. Click here for the course schedule.

If you have any questions about volunteer roles, membership, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for your support!

Yours in Girl Scouting,
Donna Smith
