Camp Staff - FAQ
What kind of camp is our Summer Camp?
Our Summer Camp is for girls ages 5 to 17. We have both Resident Campers
and Day Campers who enjoy their summer with us. The camp is owned and
operated by Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay, but all girls are welcome
to attend whether or not they are presently Girl Scouts. You do not have
to have been a Girl Scout to be a Camp Counselor.
Who are the Staff?
Our staff (ages 15 and up) come from all across the U.S. and Overseas.
Each staff person is carefully selected for their position based on
their skills, willingness to live at camp, ability to work with other
staff, and the desire to work with children. We are an EOE/AA Employer.
But, I don’t know how to do…..(fill in the blank)
We will train you. In training, you will get to know the other staff and
learn how to do things like: build a campfire, play games, teach songs,
talk to parents, manage campers and have fun while leading your group
through camp activities. We will provide First Aid and CPR training, and
if you are interested, Lifeguard, Boating, and Archery Training. If you
have the energy, the desire, and a positive attitude, we can teach you
the rest.
Where will I live at Camp?
At camp, most staff members live in platform tents (lg. canvas tents w/
wooden floor and four beds) or Adirondacks (open-air, rustic three-sided
cabins w/bunk beds). Bathroom facilities range from flush toilets to
latrines. Showers and laundry facilities are provided. Depending on
program assignments, some staff may live in “house-like” cabins. There
is an air-conditioned staff house with showers, kitchen, lounge area,
phone, TV and VCR is available to all staff for use during time off.
What do we wear?
All staff wears a uniform on special occasions and certain days of the
week. Outdoor, camp-appropriate clothing is required the rest of the
time. We don’t get bent out of shape over piercings, tattoos or hair
color.
Do we get time off?
Yes. All staff are able to schedule two hours off each day and
receive a full 24 hours off each week.
What can I do on my time off?
During the two hours off most staff either relax at the staff house or
go to town. During longer periods many staff plan trips to go visit the
interesting areas near camp such as Philadelphia, Washington, and the
beach. Home Hospitality can be arranged for any staff member who would
like to spend their time off with a local family.
Where can I get more information?
You can contact the Camp Director, Mandy Anderson at
aanderson@cbgsc.org.
