SEPTEMBER

Miraculous Monarchs - Ashland Nature Center
Girl Scout Brownies and Juniors (Grades 2-5)

Become a “Citizen Scientist”! Contribute to the Monarch Watch program as you capture, tag, and release Monarch butterflies in Ashland Nature Center’s meadow. Visit Ashland’s Butterfly House to witness other late-season butterflies in every life-stage and learn their diverse strategies for coping with winter.
WHEN: September 13, 2014, 1 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
WHERE: Ashland Nature Center, 3511 Barley Mill Rd., Hockessin, DE 19707
COST: $10 per girl, includes fun patch.
NOTE: Dress for the weather, wear comfortable hiking shoes.
Activities meet requirements for Bugs badge for Brownies and Junior Get Moving Journey. Min 8/Max 30.

 

Hiker – Iron Hill Museum
Girl Scout Brownies (Grades 2-3)

Learn what it takes to have a successful and safe hike. Scouts will learn how to navigate trails, choose the correct hiking gear and explore what types of foods are good for hiking trips. The girls will then use their newfound knowledge and take a hike on the grounds.
WHEN: September 20, 2014, 1 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
WHERE: Iron Hill Museum, 1355 Old Baltimore Pike, Newark, DE 19702
COST: $10 per girl, includes snack and Hiker badge.
NOTE: Free admission for two leaders/
chaperones per program. Additional museum visitors are $2 each. Min 10/Max 15.

 

Bugs: Our Small Animal Friends – Salisbury Zoo
Girl Scout Brownies (Grades 2-3)

Girls will learn all about bugs, their homes and how important they are to our world through a variety of fun and creative activities.
WHEN: September 27, 2014 and April 11, 2015, 9 a.m. – Noon
WHERE: Salisbury Zoo, 755 S. Park Dr., Salisbury, MD 21804
COST: $12, includes Bugs badge.
NOTE: Min 10/Max 20.
