Animals and Me
Girl Scout Daisies and Brownies
From mild to wild, different animals have different needs. Girls will have the opportunity to learn how we take care of our zoo animals and meet some up close! Program includes live animal encounters, zoo tour and a take home craft.

DIY Winter Craft Holiday Weekend at Camp Country Center

Winter Wonderland at Camp Todd
Girl Scout Daisies through Juniors
Winter Wonderland introduces the camp experience to girls who have never had the chance to stay at camp before. This weekend you will work on fun winter crafts, find ways to work together through fun winter games, zip line through the cool breeze and have cozy warm snacks with new found friends.

Overnight: January 9-10, 2015, 7 p.m. Friday

On My Honor Ceremony
Girl Scout Daisies through Ambassadors (Grades K-12)
To achieve the Girl Scout Gold, Silver and Bronze Award takes dedication, organization and determination. These awards are not easily achieved and the girls who earn them are to be commended. This special girl-led ceremony will honor the Girl Scouts who have achieved their highest grade level awards. We will also acknowledge the commitment of girls who have been a Girl Scout for 10 and 13 years and graduating seniors. Information about the Take Action projects will be on display. Attendance by honorees, families, friends and the Girl Scout community is encouraged. 8th Grade Cadettes through Ambassadors who are not being honored, are eligible to apply for Mistress of Ceremonies.
WHEN: January 11, 2015
WHERE: Smyrna High School, Smyrna, DE
COST: $5 per person. (There is no cost for girls being honored.)
NOTE: Girls must complete and submit final paperwork to council by the September 30, 2014 deadline in order to be recognized for their accomplishments. Submissions of final reports after the deadline will not be eligible for recognition at this year’s ceremony. They will be honored the following year.

 

Celebrating Community

Enjoy a program set back in time at our museum to earn this badge. Learn about symbols that represent Delaware. Learn to march just as if you were in a marching band! Visit our historical museum and learn how to fold the American flag.

African American Life on the John Dickinson Plantation

Discover the lives of enslaved people and the free African Americans who lived on the John Dickinson Plantation and connect their stories to your life and freedoms. We will explore family trees using clues from the past, try daily chores common on the plantation and create a plantation journal to record our thoughts and experiences.

For the Love of Animals
Girl Scout Daisies and Brownies
Celebrate your love of animals and discover what it takes to care for animals at the zoo. We can show animals how much we care by properly caring for them. We’ll explore what both pet and wild animals need to feel truly loved! Program includes live animal encounters, zoo tour, and a take home craft.

Miniatures Workshop

Girl Scout Brownies

The First State Mini Club of Delaware (FSMC) is leading a workshop that will allow Brownie Girl Scouts to earn the Miniatures badge. This special badge campwas originally developed by the FSMC for Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay and has been used by Girl Scout councils all over the country! This is the first time it will be available for the brownie level of scouts. Construct a camp scene. The project will be similar to the example shown below, but the items will vary according to choices made by the participants. It includes a stick "fire" with real stones, a log, a bedroll, mini-flowers and ferns, and mini snacks.  


Learn new techniques using paper, cardboard, paper punches and cloth; learn about making items to scale, tools and glue. Use found objects creatively. Learn about an upcoming miniature show and have the opportunity to display your creation at that show.

The Painter in You

Discover the artists featured in the Biggs Museum and learn why, what and how they paint. Bring out the artist in you and earn your Brownie Painting badge by creating original art!

Plie, tendu, rond de jambe: Learn these steps and more from the world of ballet. This Dancer Badge workshop is filled with lessons, history of dance and a chance for you to be the creator (choreographer) of your own dance piece.

Hike in Nature

Get outdoors and participate in a guided hike along the Sea Hawk Trail. Scouts will identify plants and animals and enjoy a picnic lunch under the pavilion.

WHERE: Holts Landing at Delaware Seashore State Park.

Painting
Girl Scout Brownies
You will learn firsthand that the Ward Museum is a great place for art and painting. While here, you will take a look through the galleries and see how nature artist like the Ward Brothers (or “wildlife counterfeiters” as they like to call themselves), were able to create a lifelike 3D illusion of weightless feathers out of wood and paint. Once you are inspired, you will be able to try your hand at painting from real life, and also get a chance to paint abstract and unique paintings on your own. The day will end with everyone pitching in to complete a mural with a theme of the groups choosing.

Take a fantastic pontoon boat ride while learning about the water cycle and how it affects our local wetlands and watersheds. Perform some water quality testing on Trap Pond and discover how we can improve our quality of water around us.

Wonders of the Night Sky
Girl Scout Daisies through Ambassadors
Use telescopes, binoculars, and the naked eye to observe a full moon rising, Orion sinking, Leo prancing, Venus low in the west, Jupiter high in the south, and other celestial sights. Join the ranks of Citizen Astronomers around the world by participating in the GLOBE at Night project to assess light pollution. If it is cloudy, we will observe the “virtual” sky in Mt. Cuba’s planetarium.

Letterboxing is a unique combination of a treasure hunt, navigation, artistic expression and outdoor exploration. Carve your own personal stamp and explore the exciting world of letterboxing. Try your navigation skills to find a series of hidden letterboxes or geocaching through the garden.

Hiking 101

Let’s take a hike! We will plan a hike in the park, and learn how to use a map and compass to navigate our way. We will play a backpack relay game which helps us learn what to bring and what not to bring on our hike – then we will blaze our trail!

What’s Bugging You

Spend the afternoon catching and observing insects in the pond and in the field with nets. We will build our own “bug” to take home out of recycled materials and learn all about insects through the live insects we catch and Killens Pond’s insect collections.

Earth Day is about more than just appreciating our earth, it’s about learning to live in harmony with our environment! Hiking, ziplining, and the Team’s Challenge Course await us in the great outdoors. And don’t forget about cool crafts, cooking over the fire, singing songs, playing games and meeting new friends. We’ll be focused on learning about making environmentally responsible choices so our world and our bodies can work well together, and how to be leaders in educating others as well! As always, prepare to enjoy the natural environment, outdoor activities, fun and games.

High Sea Adventures

Join us on a classic deadrise (watermen) style boat tour of the Nanticoke River and the Chesapeake Bay. We will learn about the area’s history, its ecosystem and how it affects the famous Chesapeake Bay Blue Crab. You will be given an opportunity to fish for Croaker, Spot Perch and Catfish.
WHEN: May 17, 2015, 10 a.m. - Noon
WHERE: Cedar Hill Marina, 20945 Harbor View Rd., Bivalve, MD 21814 onboard the Marah Michelle.
