Girl Scouting Night With The Sevens

WHEN: February 20, 2016, 7 p.m. (Please arrive by 5 p.m. to be in the parade and STEM seminar hosted by Elena Delle Donne.)

Every Girl Scout in attendance will get to participate in our Pre-game Girl Scout Parade!

Girl Scouts World Thinking Day Celebration 2016

All Girl Scout grade levels
Explore your world! Grab a passport and travel the world as you visit international displays from Girl Scout troops around the region. Learn about the foods of Central America, the castles of Europe, the unique wildlife of Australia, and much more.
WHEN: February 21, 2016, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
WHERE: The Carriage House at Rockwood Park 4651 Washington St. Extension, Wilmington, DE 19809
COST: Free (girl or adult), includes Thinking Day patch.
REGISTRATION: Pre-registration is required through vendor. Please contact DLFrancisco@nccde.org or call 302-761-4340 to register, sign up to display a country (only two of each country will be represented, so register early) or other activities to start your troop preparing for World Thinking Day.
NOTE: All Girl Scouts must be in uniform for the event. Min 10/Max 100.

Scout Day at the Museum

Join museum staff and volunteers for a fun-filled evening! We will have a variety of crafts, live animal presentations and more – all geared towards meeting badge requirements.

Learn about crystals while making your own treat. See how static electricity works and moves. Learn about rocks that float and blow up a balloon without using your mouth! Discover the power of air and make goo with your own hands! Discover how amazing science can be at our museum while earning this badge.

Wonders of the Night Sky

All Girl Scout grade levels
Use telescopes, binoculars, and the naked eye to observe a crescent moon low in the west, Jupiter rising in Leo, Orion sinking in the south, and other celestial sights. Learn the secret of the North Star and constellations visible year-round. Join the ranks of Citizen Astronomers around the world by participating in the GLOBE at Night project to assess light pollution. If it is cloudy, we will observe the “virtual” sky in Mt. Cuba’s planetarium.
WHEN: March 12, 2016 and April 9, 2016, 8 p.m. – 10 p.m.
WHERE: Mt. Cuba Astronomical Observatory 3915 Hillside Mill Rd., Greenville, DE 19807
COST: $12 per girl, includes fun patch.

Ballet Dancer

Plie, tendu, rond de jambe: Learn these steps and more from the world of ballet. This Dancer Badge workshop is filled with lessons, history of dance and a chance for you to be the creator (choreographer) of your own dance piece.

Mom and Me Spa Retreat

GS Brownies and Juniors

WHERE: Camp Grove Point
WHEN: March 18-19, 6:30 p.m. Friday - 2 p.m. Saturday.
COST: $40 per person.
Come to camp with Mom for rest and relaxation! On Friday night, we’ll enjoy some light snacks, face masks, and pedicures! It’s a lazy breakfast at this spa before a busy day of crafts, yoga, and relaxation. Register by March 14th! Download Leader Guide for this event.

 

 

Senses

Who can see better, humans or owls? Brownies will get a sensational sensory experience learning about their senses and using them to learn about nature and animals. Brownies will use their senses while enjoying a scavenger hunt in and around the museum.

Celebrate Earth Day a little early at Camp Todd! This special spring festival is designed for fun in our natural environment. Make nature crafts, learn how to compost, try geocaching, aim for a bull’s eye at archery ad go zip-lining! Spring has sprung at Camp Todd!

Enjoy an afternoon at the zoo during this special program just for scouts! There will be games, live animal encounters, and other activities all geared toward meeting scout badge requirements. Brandywine Zoo fun patch will be available for purchase.
WHEN: April 9, 2016, 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
WHERE: Brandywine Zoo, 1001 N. Park Dr., Wilmington, DE 19802
COST: $10 per person; includes all Girl Scouts, leaders, parents, siblings, and additional leaders. One leader free for every 15
people registered.

Letterboxing and Geocaching

GS Brownie and Junior
Carve out your own personal stamp and explore the exciting world of letterboxing. Letterboxing is a unique combination of a treasure hunt, navigation, artistic expression and outdoor exploration. Then try your navigation skills to find a series of letterboxes hidden at DEEC. Experience a more technical treasure hunt with geocaching. Practice using a GPS and search the DEEC Garden for hidden treats.

Learn how to paint a digital picture, participate in an Internet research project, letter writing and learn a new Internet game.

Storm the Castle: Basic Catapults

Design and build a variety of catapults and test them to see how far your objects can fly! Teams can start planning for the Fall 2016 Junior-level competition at the next Fall Fling.

Animals in an Estuary

Explore the salt marsh by investigating the plants and animals that call this habitat home. Learn the environmental importance of wetlands and be prepared to get muddy!
WHEN: May 14, 2016, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
WHERE: Indian River Life-Saving Station at Delaware Seashore State Park, 25039 Coastal Hwy., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971
COST: $10 per girl.
NOTE: Participants must wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get muddy. Program will meet at the Indian River Life-Saving Station and scouts will need to be transported to the campground area. Most badge requirements will be met for the Junior Animal Habitats badge. Min 10/Max 25.

 

 

Bugs, Bugs Everywhere

Come have a Bug-tastic time exploring the world of insects through this interactive program. View insects from the museum collections, make your own insect craft, explore outside the museum and watch insects up close.

Go Native-Pollinators & Flowers

GS Brownie and Junior
Spend the afternoon at Abbott’s Mill Nature Center exploring the native plants in our Rain Garden and fields for native pollinators. Investigate how flowers are designed to attract hummingbirds, butterflies, beetles and moths. Discover the life cycle of the Monarch Butterfly and other insects that share its milkweed host plant. Collect milkweed seeds and learn how to establish a Monarch garden in your yard or neighborhood.

Explore the ins and outs of historic Cooch-Dayett Mills and discover how water generated energy is used to run all its machines. Then harness the ultimate power source – the sun! Observe our star with a specially-filtered telescope, do a solar power experiment, construct a simple sundial, make your own solar print and use a solar oven.
