Wonders of the Night Sky
Girl Scout Daisies through Ambassadors
Use telescopes, binoculars, and the naked eye to observe a full moon rising, Orion sinking, Leo prancing, Venus low in the west, Jupiter high in the south, and other celestial sights. Join the ranks of Citizen Astronomers around the world by participating in the GLOBE at Night project to assess light pollution. If it is cloudy, we will observe the “virtual” sky in Mt. Cuba’s planetarium.

Letterboxing and Geocaching
Girl Scout Brownies and Juniors
Letterboxing is a unique combination of a treasure hunt, navigation, artistic expression and outdoor exploration. Carve your own personal stamp and explore the exciting world of letterboxing. Try your navigation skills to find a series of hidden letterboxes or geocaching through the garden.
WHEN: April 11, 2015, 9 a.m. – Noon
WHERE: DuPont Environmental Education Ctr., 1400 Delmarva Lane, Wilmington, DE 19801
COST: $10 per girl, includes Letterboxer badge for Brownies and the Geocacher badge for Juniors.
NOTE: Wear shoes that can get muddy and bring rain gear if appropriate. Min 8/Max 25.

Hiking 101
Girl Scout Brownies
Let’s take a hike! We will plan a hike in the park, and learn how to use a map and compass to navigate our way. We will play a backpack relay game which helps us learn what to bring and what not to bring on our hike – then we will blaze our trail!
WHEN: April 11, 2015, 3 p.m. – 5 p.m.
WHERE: Killens Pond State Park, Sports Complex, 5025 Killens Pond Rd., Felton, DE 19943
COST: $4 per girl.

NOTE: Girls need to bring a water bottle and wear clothing/footwear appropriate for the weather and hiking. Some requirements for the Hiker badge will be met. Park entrance fee in effect ($3 per Delaware vehicle/$6 out-of-state

What’s Bugging You
Girl Scout Brownies
Spend the afternoon catching and observing insects in the pond and in the field with nets. We will build our own “bug” to take home out of recycled materials and learn all about insects through the live insects we catch and Killens Pond’s insect collections.

Earn your Dancer Badge with Delaware Dance Company! Watch the pros demonstrate different dance styles and then try some moves
of your own. Learn a dance routine and perform together for friends and family.

Earth Day at Camp Todd
Girl Scout Daisies through Juniors
Earth Day is about more than just appreciating our earth, it’s about learning to live in harmony with our environment! Hiking, ziplining, and the Team’s Challenge Course await us in the great outdoors. And don’t forget about cool crafts, cooking over the fire, singing songs, playing games and meeting new friends. We’ll be focused on learning about making environmentally responsible choices so our world and our bodies can work well together, and how to be leaders in educating others as well! As always, prepare to enjoy the natural environment, outdoor activities, fun and games.
WHEN:
Day: April 18, 2015, 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Overnight: April 17-19, 2015, 7 p.m. Friday through 11 a.m. Sunday.
WHERE: Camp Todd
COST: Day participants: $15 includes patch, crafts lunch and snack. Weekend participants: $40 includes patch, crafts and four meals.

Daisy and Brownie Discover Camp Grove Point
Girl Scout Daisies and Brownies
Learn some of the best outdoor skills including how to read a compass, start and cook on a fire and how to build a shelter in the woods. We will also review how to determine safe and unsafe plants in the woods. We will play some fun outdoor games and work on great arts and crafts projects.
WHEN: May 9, 2015, 9 a.m. Saturday through 11 a.m. Sunday.
WHERE: Camp Grove Point
COST: $35 includes program supplies, a fun patch and three meals.

Storm the Castle: Basic Catapults

High Sea Adventures
Girl Scout Brownies through Cadettes
Join us on a classic deadrise (watermen) style boat tour of the Nanticoke River and the Chesapeake Bay. We will learn about the area’s history, its ecosystem and how it affects the famous Chesapeake Bay Blue Crab. You will be given an opportunity to fish for Croaker, Spot Perch and Catfish.
WHEN: May 17, 2015, 10 a.m. - Noon
WHERE: Cedar Hill Marina, 20945 Harbor View Rd., Bivalve, MD 21814 onboard the Marah Michelle.
COST: $18 per girl/adult. Includes fun patch, bait and tackle.

Explore the ins and outs of historic Cooch-Dayett Mills and discover how water-generated energy to run all its machines. Harness the ultimate power source – the sun! Observe this star with a specially-filtered telescope, do a solar power experiment, construct a simple sundial, make your own solar print and use a solar oven.
