Celebrating Courage, Confidence and Character of Delaware's Elite Businesswomen
The Women of Distinction celebrations recognize female leaders across the Delmarva Peninsula who serve as superior role models to our girls while demonstrating significant contributions to their communities. The Women of Distinction program series is a wonderful leadership opportunity for teen Girl Scouts. Girl Scout Cadettes in grade 8, Seniors and Ambassadors are invited to make connections with the Delmarva Peninsula’s elite businesswomen and government officials at these signature events. Girls serve in leadership positions that make this event successful including; Mistress of Ceremonies, flag presenters and greeters.
Four dynamic women were honored in 2014 as our Women of Distinction:
Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay is pleased to honorTerri Kelly, President and CEO of W.L. Gore & Associates as the 15th Northern Woman of Distinction. Gore is a multi-billion dollar enterprise that employs more than 10,000 associates in 45 plants around the world. Kelly will be honored on Tuesday, March 11, 2014. A proud Girl Scout alumna, Kelly joined Gore as an engineer in 1983 after graduating summa cum laude from the University of Delaware with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Kelly’s leadership abilities have driven her success in a company known for its non-hierarchical “lattice” structure. At Gore, associates become leaders based on their ability to gain the respect of their peers and to attract followers. Terri earned the title of president and CEO in 2005 — one of the few titles within the enterprise — following a peer-driven selection process.
