Girl Scouts to Hold Safety Skills Event

March 12, 2009

The Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Council will be holding a free public Skills 4 Life—Staying Safe event at the Easton Armory on March 28, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  The event will feature presentations to educate families about safety concerns. This free event is open to the public, and all families are welcome to attend. For more information or to register, visit www.GSCB.org or call 1-800-374-9811.

Skills 4 Life will offer tips on making disaster preparedness kit, chemical and fire safety advice, first aid, personal safety techniques, and information on nuclear preparedness and bioterrorism.  There will also be programs on cyber safety, bullying, and gangs.  The goals of these programs are to help families to better understand the different kinds of dangers they face today and aid them in becoming better prepared.

“It’s very important that families are aware about safety,” said Donna M. Smith, Senior Vice President-Membership Services of the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Council.  “The Girl Scouts and our partner agencies will offer a wide range of programs to families at this event to ensure that there’s something for every situation and every family member.”

Girl Scouts has been a leader in safety among youth for nearly 100 years. The Girl Scouts pioneer a variety of cyber-safety, anti-bullying, and leadership initiatives.

A leading advocate for and expert on girls, the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Council builds girls of courage, confidence and character by providing personal leadership development and programs that teach skills for the real world.  To learn more about Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Council, visit www.GSCB.org or call 1-800-374-9811.
